Questi corsi si tengono in estate per determinate fasce d’età comprese tra i 7 e i 18 anni. La classica soluzione per gli juniores è di dedicare la mattina alle lezioni d’inglese (circa 15 ore la settimana, solitamente in gruppi di 15 ragazzi) e il pomeriggio alle attività sportive e culturali.
Family
Questi corsi si tengono in estate per determinate fasce d’età comprese tra i 7 e i 18 anni. La classica soluzione per gli juniores è di dedicare la mattina alle lezioni d’inglese (circa 15 ore la settimana, solitamente in gruppi di 15 ragazzi) e il pomeriggio alle attività sportive e culturali.
Adulti
Età minima 16, 17 o 18 anni, a seconda della scuola. Intensità variabile dalle 15 alle 30 ore o lezioni alla settimana.
Spesso i corsi intensivi (oltre 20 lezioni/ore settimanali) comprendono una parte “base” dove gli studenti si trovano in classe con persone di livello omogeneo e seguono un programma strutturato (dipende dal livello) ideato per coprire le quattro capacità fondamentali della lingua: parlare, capire, scrivere e leggere..

FAQ
I corsi a Londra sono molto più cari?
Non necessariamente. Quello che è sicuramente più caro è il costo della vita e di conseguenza, l’alloggio. Bisogna anche tener presente che a Londra, molto probabilmente, sarà necessario fornirsi di tessera per i mezzi (minimo 42 euro a settimana).
A che ora devo rientrare se alloggio in famiglia?
Per i maggiorenni, normalmente non c’è un “coprifuoco”. Di solito lo studente riceve una chiave ed è libero di uscire e rientrare quando vuole. Naturalmente è gradita la buona educazione e se si rientra tardi, si cerca di non svegliare tutti. Per i minorenni, la famiglia si attiene alle specifiche richieste dei genitori.
Se non ci si trova bene in famiglia, si può cambiare?
Certamente, se non vi trovate più che bene in famiglia è vostro dovere informare la scuola subito e la famiglia verrà cambiata appena possibile.
Il materiale didattico verrà fornito dalla scuola?
Sì. Solitamente è già compreso nella tassa d’iscrizione, a volte bisogna pagare i libri a parte. Quaderni, penne ecc sono normalmente a discrezione dello studente. Per i juniores, invece, è già tutto compreso.
Se devo prendere dei mezzi per arrivare a scuola, le spese sono a mio carico?
Generalmente sì. Solo in pochi casi, quando sono previste delle uscite come parte del programma sarà compresa una tessera per i mezzi nel costo del corso.
Se qualcuno vuole telefonarmi quando sono all’estero, come deve fare?
Non è consigliabile chiamare la scuola (salvo in caso di emergenza) perché disturberebbe le lezioni. Si possono sempre ricevere telefonate in famiglia la sera. A volte le famiglie permettono agli studenti di fare delle telefonate locali, ma le telefonate internazionali non sono mai concesse. Agli juniores che alloggiano in college verrà spiegato l’orario migliore per ricevere telefonate.
Quando devo arrivare?
Le lezioni solitamente sono dal lunedì al venerdì, quindi bisogna arrivare la domenica e ripartire il sabato. A volte le scuole chiedono di arrivare e partire di sabato. Arrivi e partenze in altri giorni sono da concordare di volta in volta e se ciò è fattibile, vi è un supplemento per il pernottamento in più.
Devo portare lenzuola e asciugamani?
Solitamente no, la famiglia fornisce e lava tutta la biancheria, mentre nei residence spesso bisogna portare gli asciugamani e a volte bisogna comprare anche il completo da letto (circa 30 GBP). Gli juniores non devono portare nulla.
Quando devo pagare?
Non c’è una regola fissa, ma generalmente, prenotando con largo anticipo, viene richiesta una caparra che può variare dalle 50 alle 350 GBP e il saldo della quota circa un mese prima della partenza.
Per dare un esame Cambridge bisogna andare a Cambridge?
No, si può preparare e dare un esame Cambridge in tutta la Gran Bretagna, Canada, Irlanda, Malta, Australia e Nuova Zelanda. Gli stessi esami si tengono nello stesso giorno in tutto il mondo.
Sarò l’unico italiano nella mia classe?
Se si è fortunati, sì. Ma se si va in estate in una scuola dove ci sono tanti italiani, probabilmente no. Nel formare le classi la scuola guarda prima di tutto il livello di conoscenza, se c’è una sola classe al suo livello e ci sono altri italiani con il suo livello (il che non è difficile se avete seguito lo stesso programma scolastico) sarete nella stessa classe.
È vero che gli insegnanti sono tutti di madre lingua e parlano unicamente in inglese?
Rigorosamente sì per la prima e sì (in classe) per la seconda, sebbene l’insegnante conosca altre lingue. Il più grande ostacolo nell’apprendimento di una lingua è la tentazione di tradurre.
Posso aprire un conto corrente all’estero?
Per soggiorni brevi (inferiori ai tre mesi) è praticamente impossibile con i rigorosi controlli antiterrorismo e anti riciclaggio di denaro, anche per i soggiorni più lunghi, aprire conti correnti all’estero può essere difficile. Vi consigliamo di rivolgervi alla vostra banca qualche tempo prima della partenza per verificare l’idoneità e le spese di carte tipo bancomat, ricaricabili ecc.
La scuola mi rilascerà un attestato di frequenza?
Sì. Alcune scuole lo rilasciano automaticamente a tutti gli studenti, altre solo su richiesta. Basta informarsi un paio di giorni prima del rientro.
Il volo è compreso nel costo?
No, siete liberi di scegliere la soluzione di viaggio che più vi è comoda. Ricordatevi di arrivare all’aeroporto più vicino possibile alla vostra destinazione, perché i costi del trasporto pubblico in Gran Bretagna, per esempio, sono molto elevati e potrebbero cancellare eventuali risparmi accumulati nella scelta dell’aeroporto/del volo.
La famiglia verrà a prendermi all’aeroporto?
No, di solito gli adulti devono arrivare a destinazione indipendentemente. Tramite la scuola è sempre possibile richiedere un transfer aeroportuale, il cui costo varia a seconda della distanza dell’aeroporto dal punto di arrivo. Per i juniores, invece, il pacchetto spesso comprende i transfer da e per l’aeroporto.
Avrò accesso ad Internet in famiglia?
Se si è fortunati sì, ma non tutte le famiglie hanno la wi-fi, quindi se per voi è importante, è opportuno indicarlo sul modulo d’iscrizione
Chi devo pagare?
Bisogna pagare direttamente la scuola prescelta nella valuta nazionale. E’ possibile pagare in sterline, dollari americani/canadesi/australiani e neozelandesi a prescindere da quanto dica un eventuale funzionario ignorante!
