Brooks Brothers Rowing Cup: sport, international connections and the heart of Milan
The first edition of the Brooks Brothers Rowing Cup took place last weekend at Milan’s Darsena, bringing together eight crews from prestigious European universities and historic Italian rowing clubs.
The race was won by the Brooks Brothers Boat Club🥇, followed by U.S.R. Triton Utrecht and Cambridge, after a spectacular 250-metre Match Race featuring mixed crews.
Yet the Rowing Cup was about much more than sport. It provided a unique opportunity to bring together sport, education, culture, lifestyle and local communities, creating new connections between Italian and international organisations.
The strong connection with the UK was particularly significant, with Oxford and Cambridge taking part and reflecting the shared heritage of Brooks Brothers and the longstanding traditions of University sport.
Staged at the Darsena, one of Milan’s most iconic locations, the event also brought rowing closer to the city and to a wider audience, turning the waterfront into a spectacular sporting arena.
The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy was delighted to support this initiative, which demonstrates how sport, culture and excellence can create new opportunities for dialogue and strengthen the connections between the UK and Italy.
