Fiscal & monetary policy responses to re-start the economy after Covid-19
with Guido Traficante & Paule Ansoleaga Abascal

Event Details
What awaits Italy after the lockdown.
Can Europe’s rebound come from a greater dialogue with Asia?
The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy, through the British Chambers of Commerce Global Business Network, opens a dialogue with the British Chamber of Commerce in China to allow members to hear first hand what life is like as the restrictions on movement and trading start to fall. Members will be able to ask their own questions to the panellists and get live answers.
- What can Italy learn from China’s response to COVID-19?
- When can businesses expect to get back to normal?”
- What actually is the “new normal” in China?
During the seminar we will learn about some of the best practices that have been adopted. We will also hear about UK Government initiatives being put in place to support international businesses.
Furthermore, we will look Beyond COVID-19 and take the opportunity to explore new potential trade opportunities between Italy, China and the UK.

Elisabeth Weingraber-Pircher
Following the very positive feedback from the previous seminars for Sustaining Members on Resilience, Elisabeth.Weingraber-Pircher, learning consultant and coach, accompanies Chamber members into the world of VUCA.
Metamorphosis: A profound change from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism, as from the caterpillar to the pupa and from the pupa to the adult butterfly.
Metamorphosis is antidote to stagnation, antidote to a fixed mindset.
The purpose of this series on metamorphosis is to use the energy infused into our system by an outside disruption like CoViD19 to create a growth mindset that allows us to thrive in a VUCA world. It’s not about the strategies it is about the
mindset that allows the formulation of such strategies.
A mindset that focuses on better understanding who we are as a human being.
How we redefine our essence and how we want to emerge into the new uncertain world. We decide the form and substance of our goodness.
Our metamorphosis mindset will allow us to constantly redefine ourselves, opening constantly new possibilities in a VUCA world to stay true to ourselves in infinite shapes and forms.

Ripartire. Per costruire un futuro più giusto, inclusivo e sostenibile.
with Francesco Bicciato & Paule Ansoleaga Abascal

Digital space #4: Ambiguity to Action
Beyond fake news, what are the facts and are the facts really facts? What do we know for certain and once we know it has changed again.
How do we deal with not knowing? What is the impact of not knowing on our capacity for defining direction and moving into action.
We will examine further our emotions around ambiguity and how to unblock us. Through poetry in motion and an ambiguous exercise will define our own ways to reshape ourselves and just do it again and again.

Event Details
The Milan-based choir, Canti Corum, under the direction of Maestro Vincenzo Simmarano will perform “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace” by the famous, contemporary, Welsh composer, Sir Karl Jenkins, to mark the 20th anniversary of the first performance of the work, which is dedicated to the victims of Kosovo .
The concert will be a way to raise funds to support the Comunita’ di Sant’Egidio in its “Humanitarian Corridors” project.
The idea of the work comes from the well-known, mediaeval chanson melody L’homme arme’ , but the work itself is composed of many diverse musical styles and texts from different sources.
It will be a grand concert with an international choir, a premiere performance in Milan.

Where will we end up? Old truths are no longer valid. Statistics will not provide guidance, last months practices have become obsolete. What is emerging? How can we combat anxiety and worry about our future?
Working through a complex case we will define for ourselves a way to focus our efforts on what is within our control and close to our core goodness. Defining questions and data points that allow us to create focus and understanding.

MIND – Milan Innovation District reboot plan for Italy
with Filippo Addarii & Paule Ansoleaga Abascal
In our 1st BCCI Inclusive Finance webinar, we explored the fiscal and monetary resources needed to keep the system afloat during this pandemic crisis. On our 2nd virtual gathering, we discussed how to use those resources to build back better. We highlighted the role ofsustainable finance as a powerful force-for-good, an essential tool to support the real economy, foster innovation and bring about social, environmental and economic progress.
This time, we would like to discuss a real case on how to pursue private interests along with public value by leveraging on open innovation. We will host Filippo Addarii, Founding Partner and CEO of PlusValue Advisory ltd., strategic consultancy firm based in London and specialised in designing innovation ecosystems to drive value creation together with social impact. PlusValue’s flagship project is MIND – Milan Innovation District, the €2bn regeneration of the 1m sqm site where EXPO2015 took place. This is a strategic project for Italy combining a brand new neighbourhood of Milan with an innovation district specialised in life science and sustainable smart city solutions. Together with Filippo we will explore how to build an innovation ecosystem like MIND and the potential of impact investing to catalyse the potential of the ecosystem for people and society. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that we need to reimagine our cities and invest to make them resilient to the challenges of our time.

Interdependence has increased not only in our supply chains, decision making lines but also in our personal lives. It is unclear who moves first, what the impact of my words and actions have and how we are seen from further away.
It is figuring out not so much where we end and begin but what we need and what we can offer in order to increase our impact and showing up with our core goodness where it counts.

We are very pleased to invite you to our traditional BCCI Golf Day 2020 on Friday 25th September at the Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club, Via Golf 12 – Grandola e Uniti (CO).
We experimented last year with a late morning start and whilst this meant a more leisurely trip up the lake to Menaggio, many of you fed back that it resulted in a very late lunch. Please note therefore that this year tee-offs will be from 9am until around 11am (exact timing to be advised by Wednesday 23rd September).
We will have our normal range of competitions and invite you to enter as teams (teams will be arranged as necessary for single entries).
Our traditional 9 hole PUTTING COMPETITION will take place on the practice green. Normally to be played straight after your round in the same group and to take no longer than 15 minutes. Non golfing lunchers are also welcome to participate by putting round before the golfers start to come in.
From circa 2.30pm there will be an APERITIF followed immediately by an early DINNER and PRIZE GIVING in the Club House
INFO / REGISTRATION
Cost of Green fee €50 – Aperitif & Dinner €50 to be paid on the day.

Event Details
Gordon Brown served as Prime Minister (2007-2010), Chancellor (1997-2007) and as MP in his home county, Fife (1983-2015).
He is the UN Special Envoy for Global Education and a passionate advocate for children’s rights and educational opportunity for all. Gordon chairs the Education Commission, the Education Cannot Wait HLSG and the Inquiry on Protecting Children in Conflict.
Gordon is the author of several books including Beyond the Crash and My Life, Our Times.
This fascinating and unmissable debate, the latest in the BCC’s Leadership Programme, will address one of the biggest economic crises of our time – a global pandemic that has impacted the lives of all peoples, countries and economies across the world – and the importance of global cooperation to find solutions. They will explore lessons learnt from past recessions, in particular the differences and similarities with the last major economic crash of 2008.
We will hear their thoughts on the immediate interventions and future strategic considerations which are needed to address a catastrophic fallout, including inevitable job cuts, which will lead to unprecedentedly high levels of unemployment. They will also discuss how to restart, rebuild and renew our economy, in order to ensure long-term sustainable growth and a more robust and resilient global economy that can better defend itself against future major world events.
Finally, the former Prime Minister and Dr Marshall will also consider those big universal challenges: a new way to trade as we move into new future international trade relationships, future tech-driven industries and a need for relevant skills, climate change, diverse representative leaders, and UK’s continued competitiveness and its role as a global leader in these and other areas.
