It is with great sadness that we announce that David Crackett, former president of the Chamber, died unexpectedly yesterday.
David was president of the Chamber from 2006 to 2010. His presidency was notable for significant modernisations, including digitalisation, as well as a marked increase in the quality and standard of events. He oversaw a considerable increase in the Chamber’s membership, across a variety of business sectors, and delivered consistent profitability. After his presidency, David remained active in the Chamber, often providing very welcome and useful counsel to his successors.
Outside the Chamber, David was a highly respected chartered accountant and statutory auditor, working throughout his career at Deloitte in Milan from 1974 until his retirement in 2010. He served as president of the Italian Association of International Accountants (an association representing British and Irish Professional Accountants resident in Italy) and was the contact member in Italy of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He held a number of corporate governance positions, assisted businesses with their bilateral trade and investment activities and gave lectures at Milan’s most prestigious universities.
David will be remembered for his generosity, warmth and characteristic north-Eastern straightforwardness. On behalf of the entire Chamber community and the extended UK-Italian family, we send our deepest condolences to David’s widow, Elisabetta, his sons and his family and friends on their loss.
