We are pleased to invite you to attend the Commonwealth Day 2026 celebration,

which will be held on Monday, March 9, at 17:00 (registration from 16:00)

in the Italian Parliament (the Aula dei Gruppi parlamentari of the Chamber of Deputies).

The theme of the event will be: “Commonwealth Day, the Evolution of International Organizations & Global Governance.”

Together with our hosts, which include Parliamentarians elected in Italy’s overseas constituencies,

we are sure that there will be a stimulating debate within the broader context of international relations and Italy’s role in multilateral forums.

Every year, the Commonwealth Day celebration is a significant opportunity to renew our focus on our community of 56 countries,

spanning every continent and bringing together states with diverse histories, sizes, and levels of development,

yet united by shared values such as democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and sustainable development,

enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter.

At a time when multilateralism is under severe strain

 and international institutions are being called upon to rethink their functioning to respond to increasingly complex global challenges

—from climate change to inequality, from economic and financial crises to geopolitical tensions—

the Commonwealth can serve as an important laboratory for cooperation, dialogue, and reform,

capable of empowering both large emerging economies and small, vulnerable states.

In this context, the celebration in the Chamber of Deputies aims to offer a space for reflection

 on the Commonwealth’s contribution to strengthening and evolving the architecture of global governance,

including in relation to the reform processes of major international organizations.
