The British School of Milan, founded in 1969, is the only school in Milan rated ‘Excellent’ by UK Government Inspectors (ISI). It has been identified as one of the top 10 British Schools in the world and leading IB school in Italy.
The BSM is a not-for-profit school which provides world-class education to 780 students aged 3 to 18 of over 40 different nationalities. The school values cultural diversity and offers a rich international experience while rigorously following the UK National Curriculum.
In the Primary School, students follow the English National Curriculum, culminating in the Senior School with public exams at (I)GCSE. In Years 12 and 13 (the Sixth Form), students pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma – considered the gold standard of world education and the best preparation for universities and the globally competitive world of work.
Academic results are outstanding and students progress to top universities around the globe. In the last few years they have gained places at Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Columbia, LSE, Imperial, University College London, The University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, Università Bocconi, SciencesPo and many other leading universities.
There is a strong emphasis on co-curricular activities with over 100 options available. The school is particularly proud of its exceptional music, art and drama departments. In addition, the school acts as the Italian centre for the UK-based ABRSM, the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music. The school nourishes a strong tradition of community service, with its involvement in the International Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and three IB scholarships offered annually.
High quality teaching and learning is at the core of what we do at the BSM. The style of teaching is modern and progressive. BSM staff are almost all British-trained and mother-tongue teachers. Our teachers are professionally qualified, highly experienced and annually appraised. Languages are taught almost exclusively by native language speakers including Italian, French and Spanish.
The BSM is situated just outside the centre of Milan, close to the metro and on several bus routes. Linate airport and the popular Milano 2 residences are just minutes from the school.

International English Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten in the centre of Milan offers your child an exciting entry into formal education with dedicated staff focused on the wellbeing and development of each child and state-of-the-art early years resources. Each day, early learners participate in learning activities within a setting that supports their full immersion in the English language in classes taught by fully native English-speaking teachers.
When older EY students leave our kindergarten in Milan, they are confident speaking, understanding, writing, and able to demonstrate their language abilities to a very high level, which provides them with a strong foundation for the next part of their learning journey. Furthermore, our early learning educators are fully-committed to providing a safe, enabling and interactive learning environment that supports and nurtures the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each student within an international community.
We make a conscious choice to consider all students as competent, curious and relational from birth, and we believe that all children have a fundamental right to be considered as individuals, be listened to and be fully seen.

The curricular programme implemented at our Kiddy English Kindergarten, Milan, is the robust Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our activities are intended to support children in their development across the 7 areas of the EYFS which are:

The IB curriculum (which runs throughout all years) is a truly international one and is a perfect fit for the needs of all our students. Our PYP, MYP and IB Diploma programmes thoroughly prepare our students for further study all around the world, including at some of the world’s leading universities. Our results are significantly above world averages with achievement in the Diploma for example at a particularly high level.

We opened our brand new boarding house in September 2018 and can accommodate up to approximately 50 students. With the care and attention given by our staff, boarding at IS Milan provides a truly transformative international educational experience for 14 to 18-year-olds.
